A Symbol of Cambodian Independence
Designed by Cambodian architect Vann Molyvann, the monument commemorates the country’s independence from France in 1953. Its layered, lotus-like silhouette draws on Khmer architectural traditions and gives this busy crossroads a strong visual focus.
Enjoy the monument from the surrounding public spaces and take time to notice its sculptural details. It works well as a short architectural stop within a wider city walk, with the nearby gardens offering room to slow down after the journey.

Before You Go
We suggest 20–40 minutes for an exterior view and photographs, with longer if you plan to walk through the surrounding gardens. Early morning or late afternoon can make an outdoor stop more comfortable.
The monument stands at a busy road junction. Use suitable crossing points and choose a safe viewpoint from public pedestrian areas. Access around the monument may change during national ceremonies or official events; follow local instructions.
Bring water and sun protection, and plan a café or indoor stop if you are exploring the city during the hottest part of the day.
