Russian Market

Browse the colourful aisles of Tuol Tompoung Market, widely known as the Russian Market. Textiles, handicrafts and everyday shopping come together in a neighbourhood that rewards a little extra time to explore.

Textiles, Handicrafts & Local Life

Tuol Tompoung Market is a place to browse slowly, with narrow aisles lined by textiles, bags, small crafts and everyday goods. Its familiar English nickname, Russian Market, dates back to the foreign shoppers who frequented it in the 1980s.

Choose a few stalls that catch your eye, ask about materials and workmanship, and enjoy the variety rather than trying to see everything. Beyond the covered market, the surrounding streets offer cafés and small shops that can turn a shopping stop into a relaxed neighbourhood visit.

Before You Go

We suggest 1–2 hours for browsing, with extra time for a neighbourhood café. Visit earlier in the day if possible: covered aisles can feel warm, and stall opening times vary.

Bring small-denomination cash, compare quality and confirm the agreed price and currency before purchasing. Friendly bargaining is common. For textiles, ask about the fibre and origin instead of relying only on the label.

Keep bags close in the narrower aisles and ask before photographing vendors. Leave yourself time to find a comfortable pick-up point outside the busiest streets when you are ready to return.

Plan Your Visit from JD Polman

Use the directions link to plan a journey from JD Polman Hotel to Russian Market in the Tuol Tompoung neighbourhood. Check traffic before leaving and agree a clear meeting point if a driver will collect you later.

Take time for a nearby café or continue to the Independence Monument area for a contrasting architectural stop. A visit to Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum requires a more reflective pace and should be planned with time and care.
